John Caruso made good on his promise. During an argument with his girlfriend, Caruso told the woman that if she didn't stop cursing, he would put soap in her mouth. She wouldn't stop, and Caruso was worried that she would wake up the couple's young children, so he shoved a bottle of Dawn in her mouth. Soap leaked into her mouth, and the force of Caruso's aggressive move cut her lip.
Caruso's girlfriend went to her mother's house and called the police. He explained that his parents used to do the same to him, and that he still puts soap in his mouth on occasion when he uses profanity out of respect for them. The police didn't buy it, and he was arrested and charged with domestic battery.
