Microsoft never skimps on the Halo trailers—just look at the ODST ad that was directed by Rupert Sanders. Now they've announced that the Halo 4 launch trailer, set to premiere during the Oct. 18 episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, was worked on by Fight Club and The Social Network director David Fincher.

On board to direct is Tim Miller, the visual effects lead on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Fincher and Miller will collaborate with Halo 4 devs 343 and agency twofifteenmccann to create the trailer, which'll give an "emotionally-charged" glimpse into the Master Chief's backstory. Titled "Scanned," it was filmed in Prague.

Fincher and Miller previously collaborated on the title sequence for Dragon Tattoo, which, as you may remember, was awesome. If the Halo 4 launch trailer is half as good as previous live-action Halo shorts—and we're sure it will be, with all this talent behind it—then we're going to be in for a treat on Oct. 18.
