An 18-year-old freshman at the University of South Alabama was shot and killed by police Saturday morning. A police report states that a loud noise was heard outside of the station shortly before an officer was confronted by a "muscular, nude man who was acting erratically." The man was identified as Gilbert Thomas Collar, and police insist that he rushed the officer "repeatedly." Even after being shot once in the chest, Collar reportedly got up and attempted to attack the officer again before collapsing and dying.

Collar's mother says that her son obviously wasn't armed because was naked, and was clearly not in his right state of mind at the time. She also added that he was 5'7" and weighed 135 pounds. The district attorney's office of Mobile is conducting an investigation. The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
