A 69-year-old woman from Surprise, AZ got an unpleasant surprise when the man she bailed out of jail bound and robbed her. The victim originally met 29-year-old Jay Connolly when she volunteered at Maricopa County Jail, where he was being detained. The woman helped Connolly pay his bond, then allowed him to stay at her home in a gated senior community.

To show his gratitude, Connolly and an acquaintance, 42-year-old Candy Dean, overpowered the woman and tied her up using her shoelaces. They escaped with her purse, cell phone, handgun and car. After about two hours, the woman freed herself, and police found Connolly and Dean at a motel last Friday.

The duo was arrested and charged with kidnapping, aggravated robbery and theft of means of transportation.
