Apple Explains and Offers Solution for the iPhone 5's Purple Lens Flare

Samsung won't let them live this one down.

If you own the iPhone 5, have you taken an outdoors picture and the image looks like something snapped with an Instagram-like filter already on it? Well, that is what's being referred to as a "purple haze" and after receiving numerous complaints about the undesired effect, Apple posted a new support advisory on their website with an explanation and a weak solution.

Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the edge of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources. This can happen when a light source is positioned at an angle (usually just outside the field of view) so that it causes a reflection off the surfaces inside the camera module and onto the camera sensor. Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.

Shielding the lens with your hand? That's the best you got, Apple? You hear that? We cannot wait to see what Samsung has to say about this flaw of the iPhone 5.
