Actual Money May Soon Replace Microsoft Points

In Windows 8, at least.

None

Microsoft Points, or Space Bucks, as we've been calling them for years, are not a great feature for consumers. Instead of just letting customers purchase games for what they cost, we're forced to purchase Points in predetermined amounts, ensuring there's always a surplus that's too small to use on anything. That's money wasted.

But Microsoft Points could soon no longer be the only way to pay in Microsoft's ever-expanding content ecosystem.

According to a report from Polygon, the Zune Marketplace in a final build of Windows 8 allows customers to simply pay with cash dollars. Now we're hoping that'll carry over to Xbox Live, as well, and that eventually Microsoft Points will simply vanish forever.

What do you think? Will Microsoft Points ever be replaced by simple dollars?
