19-year-old Dakoda Garren stole a woman's rare coin collection worth over $100,000, then used the stolen goods to purchase pizza and movie tickets for him and his girlfriend. How sweet—and incredibly fucking stupid. Garren and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Massman, had been doing odd jobs in Woodland, WA, when he stole a box of Liberty Head quarters, Morgan dollars and other coins from the home. Though he denied the theft, the victim said he and Massman were the only people outside of family members who had access to the goods.
If he had an ounce of sense, he might've gotten away with the crime. Instead, Garren starting spending the coins at the Battle Ground movie theater, and one worth a reported $18,500 was found at a local pizza place. A tipster responded to a reward offer for the recovery of the coins, and Garren was arrested and charged with first-degree theft. Massman will also be charged, but police are hesitant to book her because she's pregnant.
