Because there are no original ideas in Hollywood anymore, Universal is moving ahead with that Mummy film franchise reboot that reports first surfaced about last May. Seeing as the most recent reboot grossed $1.25 billion total, we're guessing there are little dollar signs behind the eyes of every exec working this project. The latest to sign on? According to Deadline, Underworld film series director Len Wiseman is set to direct the new films.

"When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head, the period tale, the old monster, but when [Roberto Orci] and Alex [Kurtzman] pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well," Wiseman said of the reboot. "It’s a darker twist on the material, a scarier version."

The first film is being eyed for a summer 2014 release, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
