We already knew that none of the original human cast would return for Transformers 4, but now it seems like the robot cast is getting a complete overhaul as well. The reason, according to TFW2005, is because the toy sales for Transformers: Dark of the Moon were way down when compared to the other two movies.
The site detailed a recent Q&A with Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner where he explained that because the movie series featured the same bots for three installments, kids weren’t buying new toys once Dark of the Moon came out. Goldner went on to say, “This is why Transformers 4 will have a new cast of [robot] characters and it will be a story revolving around these new characters.”
We don’t know what this means for longtime fan favorites like Optimus Prime and Megatron, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they’re pushed to the side in favor of these new bots.
