It's a bit ironic to see a diamond thief buckle under pressure.
A Chinese tourist at Sri Lanka's largest international gem exhibition had intended to steal a diamond worth $13,600 by replacing it with a fake. However, the tourist was spotted by the owner of the stall exhibiting the diamond, so the tourist promptly swallowed it. That's some quick thinking, there.
According to police, when they x-rayed the tourist, they saw the diamond lodged in this throat, and were able to determine that he was attempting to steal the gem.
So, what is the end game here? Do the police attempt to remove it from his throat, or, rather, do they just...wait it out? It doesn't seem like they would have protocols for this sort of thing.
