Sony revealed the newest iteration of PS3 hardware at the Tokyo Game Show this week, and at the time it was stated that the new hardware would come in 3 flavors: 12GB, 250GB and 500GB. The 250GB and 500GB models will cost $269 and $300, respectively, and are launching between now and Oct. 30.

But Sony didn't reveal any details about the U.S. release of the 12GB version, and now we know why: we're not getting it.

"The smaller Flash drive isn't coming to North America, and a lot of that reason is the digital consumer," Sony's John Koller told Engadget. "We really want to make sure, out of the box, that there is an option for them to be able to download that content. That is really critical for us, very very important."

He also said there's no price drop on older Ps3 models because—get this—consumers don't want one: "There's no price drop formally, but the thing that's been happening in the market over the last year or so is that there's been so many retail price promotions, and so many different gift card offers and all those things, being done by all of us (Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony), that we've heard from our consumer, 'Enough with all these weird price moves. What we really want is content and games and value.'"

Do you agree?
