But there is a way around the advertisements.

Last week Amazon announced the upcoming release of their new Kindle Fire device. The device is packed with new features but one unfavored change on the device is the display of  "special offer" advertisements on the home and lock screens.

Amazon took heed to the criticism about the "special offer" feature and are now giving customers an opportunity to opt-out of the ads for $15. An Amazon spokesperson explained to Ars Technica about the special offer policy change:

"With Kindle Fire HD there will be a special offers opt-out option for $15. We know from our Kindle reader line that customers love our special offers and very few people choose to opt out. We're happy to offer customers the choice."

Was the "special offer" feature a deterrent from purchasing the Kindle Fire HD? Do you think the $15 opt-out was a good idea for Amazon?
