Why did Instagram become one of the most popular mobile apps ever created? We have a couple of reasons, but we'll let @thexavious, the self-proclaimed "most influential photographer on Instagram," explain:

"What people don't understand about Instagram is that it has democratized the process of making beautiful images. Now, it used to just be people who knew how to use cameras. And now with Instagram, you take a picture of anything and you can make it look like it was taken with an old Russian camera. "

Sounds about right. The quote is taken from the funny four-minute short made by the L.A.-based sketch comedy group Olde Payphone. It takes us behind the scenes of the life of the guy who has mastered the art of letting a mobile app make your photos look artsy. Art imitating life? We hope not.
