Staff Sgt. Judy Groomes didn't want to go.
The 25-year-old had her husband, 26-year-old Staff Sgt. Christopher Groomes, shoot her in both legs so she wouldn't be deployed to Asia. Both had been stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base for almost four years, and Groomes, who's assigned to the 2nd Logistics Squadron Inbound Receiving Section, was going to be sent to Asia in the next couple of months.
According to police, Groomes claimed that an intruder shot her early Friday morning as her husband and children slept, then fled through the back door of her home. During the investigation, authorities determined that it was actually her husband who shot her. He was was arrested and booked at Bossier City Jail in Louisiana, and she was issued a summons for criminal mischief for filing a police report.
