After months of mystery and speculation, J.J. AbramsStar Trek sequel has apparently been given an official title. According to TrekMovie, multiple sources have indicated that Paramount has picked Star Trek Into Darkness as the name for the highly-anticipated installment in the series. Unlike most sequels, Abrams has said that he didn’t want to use numerals in the title because it would have people confused with the earlier Trek movies that were released in the ‘80s.

Though the title doesn’t explicitly reveal anything about a potential villain or plot, Into Darkness could perhaps point to a more serious tone than the original. Another thing to note is that the title itself does not use a colon in it, which makes it read more like a statement than the name of a movie. It will be interesting to see if that ties into any of the themes of the movie like Christopher Nolan did with names like The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. We’ll have to wait until Paramount puts out an official press release to see if this report is accurate.
