After weeks of rumor and speculation, James Gunn has confirmed on his Facebook page that he will indeed be the director of Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation. He will also rewrite the script, which was originally written by Chris McCoy and Nicole Periman. This is just part of what the Super director said on his page:

None

This Guardians of the Galaxy team will be more inline with the modern squad, and it will include the likes of Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket Racoon and Gamora. There have also been rumors that the main villain of the piece will be Thanos, who was first seen during the credits for The Avengers. However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on August 1, 2014.
