There is no reason to revisit the absolute horror that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Quite honestly, it was one of the worst comic book movies to ever be released. So when it was announced that 20th Century Fox would be putting out a sequel to the movie, we were a little concerned. Then after director Darren Aronofsky dropped out of the project, we were even less optimistic.

However, when it was revealed that director James Mangold would be taking over the reigns, things began to look up. Now, courtesy of The Playlist, we have our first official image of Hugh Jackman back in the role of Wolverine, and it looks appropriately intense. This is the style and tone that this movie needs. It’s raw and vicious looking, much like the comics used to be.

Can the final film live up to this first image? We’ll find out when The Wolverine gets released on July 26, 2013.
