HTC today took the raps off the 8X, a much-rumored new flagship Windows Phone that rivals any other premium handset currently on the market. A spiritual successor to the Taiwanese company's global One X flagship, the 8X will be a launch device for the imminent Windows Phone 8 platform along with Nokia's Lumia 920.
Like the 920, the 8X pulls no punches when it comes to design, features and performance. It's got a 4.3-inch HD 720p display with a whopping 342 PPI. Inside there's a 1.5 ghz dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, NFC, Beats Audio and an 8 megapixel f2.0 camera around back.
Despite all that juice, the 8X still manages to be slim and light with sharply tapered edges and weighing in at just 130 grams. It will be available in four colors with matching Live Tiles on the interface, including California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow.
HTC says the 8X will be available in early November very shortly after Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 launch in late October. It will be available on AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile and is expected to cost under $200 on contract.
