In the newest Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn teaser we find the cadets of the UNSC learning about what it means to contribute to all of humanity.
In 'Lecture' the instructor reminds the cadets what would happen without the UNSC, "Colonies starve; planets die".
Insurrectionists would have the trillions of humans scattered across the galaxy die on account of pride. We are all humans and share a collective origin: Earth.
