The Austria-based, but German-owned supermarket chain Billa has incensed customers by selling pre-peeled bananas in trays sealed with plastic. Billa, the self-billed "common sense" supermarket, didn't get the reaction it hoped for when negative comments flooded its Facebook page. A spokesperson for Greenpeace said that peeling the banana "only to pack it in environmentally unfriendly plastic is just madness." Sounds about right.

Billa has dismissed the gaffe as a "one off," that won't happen again. For their sake, we hope so.
