Florida detective Lawrence Perez was sentenced to 12 years in prison for stealing marijuana from drug dealers and conspiring to sell it and split the money with friends. The former Hialeah Gardens Police Department detective would pull suspects over, then steal their drugs. In 2010, he stole 24 pounds of marijuana during two traffic stops, then gave the weed to his drug-dealer friends

Following the "heist," he and his friends planned to steal 15 kilos of weed and over 600 plants from a grow operation. Investigators listened to phone calls, then prevented the theft back in July of 2010. Perez was also accused of using his status to protect his friends in the drug game, even going as far as to warn a suspect that the police were investigating him.
