Facebook will be removing "likes" from some major company and brand pages because they are from fake pages. The fake likes are harmful to Facebook's advertising model so it clear the reasoning of their recent efforts.

The crackdown will probably go unnoticed by the average user, according to Facebook, “on average, less than 1 percent of likes on any given Page will be removed.” Facebook went into detail about the fake likes crackdown on their blog post: "These newly improved automated efforts will remove those Likes gained by malware, compromised accounts, deceived users, or purchased bulk Likes. While we have always had dedicated protections against each of these threats on Facebook, these improved systems have been specifically configured to identify and take action against suspicious Likes.”

What is with people talking to fake accounts on social networks?
