In case you missed it, Apple announced the next iteration of the iPhone this week. The iPhone 5 will hit Apple retail stores on September 21, but was made available for pre-order this morning. If you were able to secure a pre-order, consider yourself luck as the iPhone 5 is officially sold out.

Yes, you read that correctly. The iPhone 5, which really doesn't even drop until next Friday, sold out an hour after being made available for pre-order. The demand was so crazy, Apple's online store was overwhelmed and shut down for a short period of time.

Due to the crazed demand, Apple's stock price spiked, bringing the company's value to $648 billion, making it the most valuable company in history.

After the initial shipment sold out, Apple changed its shipping date from September 21 to September 28. If you want an iPhone 5 you may have to wait until October.

If you didn't secure an iPhone 5 pre-order, you may be waiting for a quite a while.
