First appearance: Justice League of America Annual #2 (1984)
Back when comic book companies could present characters as thinly-veiled racial stereotypes without attracting the ire of the mainstream press, DC created Vibe, a Hispanic superhero with the ability to manipulate sonic vibrations. Oh, he’s also a break-dancer, if that type of thing is still cool. Over the years, as most heroes updated their costumes to adapt with the times, Vibe is still seen rocking the open-chest vest, black spandex pants, and Cyndi Lauper sunglasses.
If Warner Brothers and DC are serious about launching their comic properties into film, the name Vibe should never be uttered during an executive meeting. However, if the studio wants to cook the books, a la The Producers, then perhaps a big budget Vibe flick is the way to go.
