Just a heads up for all your self-snitchers out there: If you commit a crime and talk about it on Facebook, making your page private won't protect you from the authorities. GigaOM is reporting that a U.S. District Judge has ruled that "investigators can go through your Facebook profile if one of your friends gives them permission to do so."

Colon is being investigated as part of a larger investigation into drug dealing in the Bronx. Once the informant gave the authorities access to Colon's Facebook page they were able to read messages he posted about "violent acts and threats to rival gang members," which they used to acquire a warrant to search his Facebook page outright. 

Lesson: If you do a crime, stay the hell off of social networks.
