According to Variety, MGM has hired novelist and screenwriter Nic Pizzolatto to pen a draft of the studio’s upcoming remake of the classic Western, The Magnificent Seven. The original film itself was an Americanized remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, and starred Carles Bronson, Yul Brynner, Horst Bucholz, James Colburn, Brad Dexter, Steve McQueen, and Robert Vaughn. The movie focused on the seven men being hired to protect a small Mexican town from bandits.
So far the studio has Tom Cruise attached to star in the movie, but no other details concerning the director, stars, or production schedule have been released yet.
