One of the most controversial aspects of the U.S.'s case against Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom is the search warrant and subsequent raid of Dotcom's New Zealand mansion. Now, thanks to a high-ranking New Zealand police officer, we have video evidence.
The footage, which was obtained by New Zealand's 3News shows a military-style attack, with helicopters and cops weilding semi-automatic machine guns. It all seems like a bit much for a guy who's guilty of letting kids download free movies and music.
It all begs the question of the legitimacy of the siege. On June 28, a New Zealand judge ruled that the FBI unlawfully obtained evidence from Dotcom's home. High Court Chief Justice Helen Winklemann, in his ruling, said the warrants “did not adequately describe the offenses to which they were related.”
