U.S. Online Shopping Sales Hit $43.2 Billion Last Quarter

Amazon and eBay rack up.

Brick and mortar big-box stores aren't going anywhere, but their revenues may be. According to a new comScore report, Americans spent $43.2 billion via online shopping in the last quarter. That number is up 15 percent when compared to the same quarter a year ago.

This news must be harrowing for stores like Best Buy which saw sales decline over five percent last quarter. Conversely, during the same period, Amazon managed to grow by 32 percent. The good news, though, for Best Buy, is that even though less people are visiting its stores, more people are shopping on its website. The company reported a 20 percent increase in online revnue over the past quarter.

What drove the surge in online shopping? According to comScore it was a mix of computer hardware and consumer electronics, clothes and apperal, and digitial content.

Maybe brick and mortar stores are going somewhere.
