After months and months of waiting for this moment, the debut trailer for director Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly has finally been released and is every bit as intriguing as we had hoped. Starring Brad Pitt, Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, and Richard Jenkins, this movie looks to rise above being a simple crime drama by featuring genuine talent rather than stereotypes. In it, Pitt's character is a mafia enforcer tasked with seeking out two men who robbed a mob-protected card game.

Instead of force-feeding us mob clichés throughout this footage, Dominik shows us the offbeat characters of this world as he sprinkles in a surprising amount of humor during the trailer. And just like he has done with every movie he's been in over the past decade, Pitt seems to absolutely own this role. The man has only gotten better with age, and there is little doubt that he is among the top three or four actors in all of Hollywood. He is also bolstered by what looks to be a terrific supporting cast.

Between Killing Them Softly, Lawless, and The Master, the second half of 2012 should be very good to The Weinstein Company. With all of the talent involved here, we have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of this movie by the time award season rolls around.

Killing Them Softly will hit theaters on October 19.
