EA BioWare has announced that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be going free to play starting this fall. With subscribers under a million, EA BioWare has decided to welcome all with open arms and democratize the Star Wars universe.

Matthew Bromberg, GM of BioWare, had this to say, "Players want flexibility and choice. The subscription-only model presented a major barrier for a lot of people who wanted to become part of The Old Republic universe.”

We can all agree that MMO's are a marvelous way to flush countless hours away customizing and immersing ourselves in an alternate universe. Now we get to do all of that on the house. Players will be able to play the first 50 levels and eight classes for free; there will be some restrictions for higher level game play but those restrictions can be eliminated by using in game currency.
