Without fail, the state of Florida breeds the most distrubing news. A man in Port St. Joe was charged with a hate crime after allegedly shooting a man, then brushing it off because he "only shot a nigger." 59-year-old Walton Henry Butler was arrested after shooting 32-year-old Everett Gant in the head with a .22 caliber rifle.
Gant went to confront Butler, who has been accused of using racial slurs against children in his apartment complex. Butler shot Gant, then left him bleeding on the ground as he finished his dinner. He was kind enough to call 911. When authorities arrived to question Butler, they said he behaved as though he was being "inconvenienced," puzzled because "he had only shot a nigger."
Even though he doesn't think it's a big deal, Butler was charged with attempted murder and hate crime enhancement. Grant is in stable condition and expected to survive.
