A man has been accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend during a party celebrating the baptism of their youngest child. According to witnesses, a gunshot was heard last night as 24-year-old Marcos Gustavo Zermeno argued in a car with 22-year-old Eleonora Rivera Hidalgo. They found Hidalgo with a wound to her upper torso and rushed her to the hospital, but she died on arrival.

Zermeno tried to flee by stealing a car, but hopped a fence outside of a mobile home park in North Long Beach when that failed. Police are on the hunt for him, and think he may try to escape to Mexico. They also believe he is a gang member, and are considering him armed and dangerous. The couple has two other children, ages 5 and 7, and all three are being cared for by family members.
