Manhattan looked like a movie set on Tuesday afternoon after concrete exploded eight stories into the air between East 72nd and 2nd Avenue. Was a movie being filmed, or did one of those crappy disaster movies come to life? No, it turns out that a subway project went wrong. Very, very wrong.
Before anyone's terrorist attack radar went off, MTA explained that the blast was the result of a controlled underground boom that simply got out of hand. Nobody was hurt, but a crater was left inside of the fenced-off construction site. MTA promises to have a more detailed explanation available within the next 24 hours.
