Julian Assange Will Be Granted Asylum in Ecuador

Another plot twist.

None

After hiding away in an Ecuadorian embassy in London for the past few months, the Guardian is reporting that WikiLeaks mastermind Julian Assange has been granted asylum in Ecuador by the country's president, Rafael Correa. Assange has been seeking protection from being extradited to Sweden, where he faces charges of allegedly committing sex crimes.

Still unanswered is the question of how Assange will actually leave the U.K. - once he steps out of the Ecuadorian embassy, he's free to be arrested by British law enforcement for violating his bail conditions. "For Mr Assange to leave England, he should have a safe pass from the British [government]," Ecuador's foreign minister, Ricardo Patiño, told Reuters. "Will that be possible? That's an issue we have to take into account."

More on this as it develops. Looks like all those WikiLeaks movies just got another plot twist to add to the mix!
