We’re just as tired of reboots as the rest of you, but every once in a while one comes along that actually manages to pique our interest. And that’s exactly what’s happening with Fox’s latest take on Marvel's Daredevil. According to Variety, the studio is in talks with Joe Carnahan (Narc, The Grey) to direct a gritty version of the character based on Frank Miller’s legendary “Born Again” storyline.

Here’s the interesting part: with time running out on Fox’s contract to put the movie into production, the studio is negotiating with Marvel for an extension on the rights to the character. In exchange for this extension, Marvel wants the film rights back to the Silver Surfer and Galactus, which Fox currently owns. This compromise would be a win-win for both parties. Fox would get the proper amount of time necessary to get a solid Daredevil movie off the ground and Marvel would be able to potentially get to do a Silver Surfer movie that would make Jack Kirby proud.

The “Born Again” storyline that this movie would be based off of is one of the most critically acclaimed Marvel comics of all time. It deals with Daredevil’s ex-girlfriend, Karen Page, selling his secret identity to the mob in order to pay for her drug habit. The information winds up in the hands of the Kingpin, who then uses it to systematically take apart Matt Murdock’s life.

It's an absolute classic of the crime comic genre, and is the perfect example of the stellar direction the comic book industry was going in during the '80s.
