After complaints that its iOS app was painfully slow, Facebook released a completely rebuilt app for the iPhone and iPad that promises to deliver quicker performance.
Version 5.0 of the Facebook app for iOS is low on new features—in fact there are only two. For the iPhone app, Facebook takes a page from the Instagram playbook and now allows users to "Like" their friend's photos. Facebook's Timeline profile view finally makes its app debut on the social network's new iPad app.
So is it really faster? Sure. Businessweek claims the app opened twice as fast as the previous version when demoed at Facebook's Menlo Park, CA. headquarters. We can't really tell if the new app is really that much quicker, but it is demonstrably faster when first opening and loading photos.
