Australia has been struggling for years to get its video game ratings system up to speed, and R18+ games (the equivalent of the US's M rating) were banned from sale across the country until now.

The law to allow adults to purchase whatever games they want was passed federally in Australia in June, but each state or territory apparently now has to pass a similar law as well. It's a long process, but The Australian Capital Territory—the smallest in the country—has become the first to do so.

Either the rest of Australia is going to follow, or there's going to be an influx of gamer tourism to the Australian Capital Territory as gamers flock there to buy Borderlands 2 and Assassin's Creed 3 this fall.

Did you think it would ever happen? Isn't it incredible that it took this long? Tell us what you think in the comments or on Twitter.
