Apple Stores to Match Prices of Discounted iPhones

Apple plans to match Sprint and Best Buy's low prices.

Two days ago, word broke that Sprint was knocking $50 off the price of the iPhone 4S, leading everyone to believe that the new iPhone wasn't too far away. Now MacRumors has learned that even Apple is planning of discounting the iPhone 4S to match the savings customers would get from carriers and big box retailers like Best Buy and Radio Shack.

A source told MacRumors that "Apple's retail stores have been given authorization to match these discounted prices from approved major retailers and carriers." As you can see from the above image, Apple will take $49.01 off the price of each model of the iPhone 4S and even the iPhone 4.

Now may be a good time to get an iPhone 4S, though, if the iPhone 4 is enough for you, we'd wait until the next iPhone comes out, as it may replace the iPhone 3GS as Apple's "free" iPhone.
