When you think of mobile processing giants, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) doesn't immediately come to mind. That may all change with the company's most recent hire. AMD today announced that it has hired Jim Keller, formerly the director of the platform architecture group at Apple, to become the VP and chief architect of AMD's processor group.

While at Apple, Keller was in charge of the processors Apple used in its mobile devices, such as the A4 and A5. At AMD, he will be overseeing both low-powered mobile processors as well as the company's high-end high powered offerings. Ironically, Keller will report to AMD's chief technology officer and senior VP of technology, Mark Papermaster, who also had a long stint at Apple.
