Will the "Super Slim" PS3 be Announced at Gamescom?

Survey says, "No."

An FCC filing for a "super slim" PS3 appeared earlier this month, tantalizing Sony fans with thoughts of an even more streamlined version of the console. Later some images popped up claiming to show the new Super Slim PS3 model, though their authenticity is ssomewhat debatable, since Sony still hasn't made any official announcements regarding the hardware update.

Some were hoping for an announcement at the German gaming convention Gamescom, but new reports indicate that that isn't going to happen.

VG247's "insider source" (via Joystiq) claims that Sony has no plans to reveal the console at Gamescom, though the source also reports that the new 4000-series Super Slim PS3 is real, and will come in multiple versions, including a 16GB flash memory SKU—the smallest-capacity PS3 yet.

Do you think Sony could announce the Super Slim PS3 at the Tokyo Game Show in September? Do you even believe it's real? Tell us what you think in the comments or on Twitter.
