According to The L.A. Times, Warner Bros. is looking into the possibility of bringing a prequel to Stephen King’sThe Shining to the big screen. Sources told the site that Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt have been hired to present the studio with a new take on the series.

The plot of the movie would focus on the events before Jack Torrance and his family wind up at the hotel from the original. Director Stanley Kubrick’s original 1980 version of the King novel is considered one of the classics of the horror genre, despite being lambasted initially upon release.

It isn’t known whether or not this prequel will be connected at all to the Shining prequel novel that King is currently working on.
