"Tiny Wings 2" will not be released as an entirely new game, according to creator Andreas Illiger.

The new version of Tiny Wings, which hits the app store tomorrow, is a free update for players who have already bought the game called "Tiny Wings 2.0", which adds a new racing mode called "Flight School" and retina display-quality graphics.

In an interview with Touch Arcade, creator Andreas Illiger explained that he had planned to release the new features as fully-fledged sequel, but ultimately decided against it "because then my fans will be happy on the release day when they see that the sequel isn't a separate app and they will get it for free. I worked on the 2.0 version for the last 12 months and everyone told me I should make a separate app out of it and sell it again (because it is almost a new game and I would earn a lot more money). It was a heavy decision for me to give away this new version for free but it feels right..."

On top of the iPhone update, Illiger will be releasing Tiny Wings HD, a new version of the game designed for the iPad with high-quality graphics and the ability to play the new racing with two players simultaneously.

Tiny Wings HD will cost $2.99 on the App Store, while the iPhone version will remain 99 cents. If you have an iPhone or an iPad, you should have bought this game by now. If you haven't, now you've got an excuse to pick it up.
