This video shows an NYPD drug raid from 1948, and it's far more tame than what we're used to seeing today. This is definitely your grandpop's drug bust. According to the report, five men and one woman were arrested in a New York hotel room with "60 reefers and $2,000 worth of the dope in bulk form." Police also found a handgun during the raid.

The group was charged with selling or possessing marijuana, which we'll call "Grandaddy Purp" for the sake of amusement here. Though this seems rather mild, there was a serious "war on drugs" during this era, as $1.5 billion was spent between 1948 and 1963 to stop the reefer madness. It didn't work.
