According to Deadline, The Amazing Spider-Man is performing insanely well in the domestic box office, already earning $7.5 million in midnight showings alone. The film was expected to do well considering star Emma Stone's hotness and its performance in international box offices (it earned $50.2 million on opening weekend overseas) but apparently, these numbers are high enough to put it on par with Iron Man 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 2, and Spiderman 3's midnight showing earnings - all of which were sequels. "We’re right up there with big boys, giving us a great hand-off," a Sony executive told Deadline of the film's early performance.
