Stars: Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Mac Greenfield, Hannah Simone, Lamorne Morris

When New Girl premiered last September, we, admittedly, were ready to pounce. As alternately funny and sexy as Zooey Deschanel is, her character, the "adorkable" (worst adjective ever?) Jess, started off slightly insufferable and grew even more irritating as the season moved forward and Jess' geekiness was enhanced. And, truth be told, we're still not all that in love with her, which makes the performances from Deschanel's co-stars that much more impressive.

New Girl is like the TV equivalent of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies, with its repeatedly overshadowed lead and top-notch side characters. In this case, the M.V.P. trophies belong to Max Greenfield (as the lovable douchebag Schmidt), Jake Johnson (Jess' cynical is-he-or-isn't-he love interest), and Hannah Simone (Jess' best friend who's, well, incredibly gorgeous). Together, they do most of the heavy lifting while Deschanel gives us conflicted feelings. It's a good thing that, despite those mixed emotions, we're always laughing.
