On identifying as lesbian: "Having to hide something like that just ruined me. It really, really killed me. I had always really loved men—and still do—and just kind of assumed that I would be straight. I think everybody assumes that you're gonna be heterosexual. And the thing that made me think that I wasn't was I developed very strong feelings for my best friends," De Rossi told Oprah in 2010.

Portia de Rossi overcame her anorexia (which caused her to drop to a shocking 83 pounds) when she finally accepted her sexuality, which is well documented in her memoir, Unbearable Lightness: A Story of Loss and Gain. Evidently, De Rossi has come a long way from trying to “starve her sexuality away.” She married Ellen DeGeneres in 2008, and the two are both active advocates of gay rights and anti-bullying.
