Ted has been killing it in the domestic box offices - it earned a record $54.1 million on opening weekend alone, the biggest opening for a non-sequel R-rated film ever - so it comes as no surprise that the film is having a huge opening internationally as well. According to Deadline, in just three days of preview screenings in Australia at 199 locations (that is 2 day and 2 evening screenings) the film has already taken in $4.485 million. "This is off the charts and the biggest preview business Australia has ever seen," a studio executive told the site of the opening.
Comparatively, Ice Age 4: Continental Divide - a film that has been performing well internationally and has the advantage of reaching more audienes due to its rating and family friendly subject matter - has taken in $4.85 million from preview screenings at 280 locations over the past three days.
Ted's numbers are only expected to grow as the film officially opens in Australia and Taiwan next weekend.
