Not much is known about director Neill Blomkamp's (District 9) Elysium, but the first picture from the movie has hit the net anyway, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. According to The Playlist, the movie is about a man (Matt Damon) who takes on a daunting mission in a world where the very wealthy live on the pristine, man-made space station called Elysium, and fight to keep the citizens of Earth from illegally immigrating.
As you can see here, Damon is brandishing quite a large gun in his robotic arm and is completely bald, much like everybody seems to be in futuristic blockbusters. Blomkamp did incredible things on a modest budget in District 9, so the idea of him bringing more smart social commentary to the sci-fi genre is a very exciting prospect.
Elysium will come out on March 1, 2013.
