The next iPhone's display may not only be larger, but thinner, too. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Apple's upcoming smartphone will sport a thinner screen that integrates the touch sensors into the LCD, eliminating the need for a separate touch-screen layer.
The display, made by Sharp, LG Display Co., and a new company called Japan Display Inc., will be manufactured using a new technology called "in-cell." While there's no word on whether the new screen will be more energy efficient that the previous models, the extra space will allow Apple to possibly add a larger battery.
The new display technology would help Apple compete against its biggest smartphone rival, Samsung. The South Korean company's latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S III employs its organic light-emitting display, which is much thinner than the current iPhone screen.
