The most expensive video game in the world is one we've all played before. (Well, many of us.)
A prototype cartridge of the US version of The Legend of Zelda on NES is up for sale on EBay, and the owner wants $150,000 for the privilege of owning a piece of video game history.
According to seller tjcurtin1, the cartridge is a prototype from Nintendo of America, dated "2-23-87". "This is a complete version to my knowledge," tjcurtin1 wrote in his description , "and as far as I know does not differ from the released version."
So yeah, playing this particular cartridge isn't going to be revelatory experience. Like buying Babe Ruth's bat or a piece of the Berlin Wall, the cartridge is simply meant to be appreciated for its historical significance.
Oh yeah, the buyer will also get a sealed copy of the retail version of the game because, for that much money, you should be able to play the game without damaging the investment, right?
